Scene Five

Night, later.

A woman’s voice is heard, moaning softly – Julie.

Thomas appears in his pyjamas carrying a torch and his blanket.

He listens to the moaning – joined by the grunts of a man now – Douglas.

Thomas goes down the stairs, shining the torch about.

At the bottom of the stairs he shines the light around the sitting room.

He climbs back up the stairs slowly, listening.

He stands on the top step of the stairs, waiting, baffled.

The voices start again and he finds his way to Julie’s bedroom.

There is light under the door.

He bobs up and down, bursting with curiosity.

He puts his hand on the door knob and starts to turn it – the moaning becomes a gasping and intensifies, climaxing with several sharp cries.

He freezes, startled, looks around.

He turns the door handle and it creaks.

The gasping stops instantly.

The light under the door is turned out.

He takes his hand away from the handle, hops about wringing his hands, anxious.

He goes back to his room.

Blackout.
